I bought all my chicken at the grocery
store, human grade right off the shelf just like I do for myself and my
family. Then why, oh why, did everyone get sick? I guess
you just can't trust anyone these days. I handled all the chicken very
carefully, it came home, went to the freezer and then to the grinder
when it was just almost thawed.
I came to this conclusion; #1 Either it came from the store
contaminated or #2 it went bad between the thawing to the grinder.
Since the packages were all sealed until almost thawed I have to
conclude that it was already contaminated when it came from the store.
Even raw chicken can't get contaminated with something with which it
has not been in contact.
So back to the drawing board, I can't have this again.
So what am I feeding my Rottweiler's now?
I have been feeding
Taste
Of The Wild High Prairie Blend for several months now. This one is
grain free so no worries about aflatoxins in the food.
For my rottweilers that don't get along with the Taste Of The Wild, I
feed
Diamond
Naturals Chicken and Rice
Some get a blend of the two. Just whatever works best for each
individual Rottie.
My retiree's now get the exact same food as the rest of the
kennel, more Diamond Natural's less Taste of the Wild, they don't need
the high protein, it makes them fat since they are not as
energetic as a young Rottweiler dog. I do give them about 10% of their
daily diet in Taste Of The Wild to be sure
they are getting all they need as to vitamins, etc. This keeps their
coats shiny and their health good.
All of my Rottweilers get their dog food topped off with cooked and
deboned chicken. Yes, cooked. I don't want to go back there again with
raw.
When I am too busy to cook chicken for my Rottweilers I mix in some
canned dog food. I have settled on
Evanger's 100%
canned chicken.
I have found that every one of my Rottweilers are a little different as
to which food will agree with them and bring out the best in health.
Look for that nice shiny coat and good energy levels as the first
indicators of which food does best for them.
On what food am I starting my Rottweiler puppies?
Nutro
Max Large Breed Puppy and
Innova Large
Breed Puppy
Which feed I start them on depends on how large they should mature to
and how fast the growth rate is in that particular line.
Why am I starting my Rottweiler puppies on these puppy foods?
Check out the link and read the guaranteed analysis on the food, you
will see that calciumn minimum is 1%, calcium maximum is 1.5% for the
Nutro Max and even lower for the Innova..
Large breed puppies should never and I do mean
never have more than 1.5% calcium in
their diet. Even less if they are projected to be very large and grow
very rapidly..
This is not my opinion, it is a
scientifically
proven fact.
Check out the link and adjust your puppies diet accordingly. Diet alone
will not fix genetically bad hips or bones but incorrect diet alone can
ruin the potential for good hips and bones.
I am working on another page that I will add to the website later with
more information on Rottweiler puppy hips and bones and growing them
right. Look for a new page on this in the near future. I feel that
there is a real need to get this information out to as many puppy
buyers and Rottweiler breeders as possible.
